Whether you are new to cold therapy or a seasoned pro, you probably love the benefits of cold therapy, but not the hassle of managing ice. Keeping an ice bath cold with ice alone can be a burden. Our Cold Therapy Chiller & Tub package eliminates this issue by maintaining the cold temperature effortlessly thus allowing for more consistent and frequent usage, maximizing the benefits of your cold therapy routine.
Our chiller can reach temperatures in the low 40°F range and even down into the high 30°F under optimal conditions, though reducing external heat sources will improve the chiller’s performance. Ambient temperatures and sun exposure significantly affect the heat load on a cold therapy tub. Even in full sun or less-than-ideal conditions, maintaining a low to mid-40°F temperature is achievable with this setup.
The Cold Therapy Chiller can be used outdoors in all weather conditions, except freezing temperatures. So, to keep your unit functioning properly, be sure to disconnect and drain the chiller completely if the ambient temperatures drop to freezing or below to prevent damage.
For best results, do not place the chiller in an area that cannot get wet, as both the chiller and tubing will produce condensation. Additionally, if you ever notice your system lacks flow or if you are unsure about the flow rate, immediately unplug the chiller and contact support at support@penguinchillers.com.
Strong water flow is crucial for any application requiring a water chiller because insufficient flow can cause water to freeze inside the chiller, leading to potential damage. Damage caused by improper setup or maintenance is not covered under the manufacturer’s warranty.
Operating the Cold Therapy Chiller & Tub is more affordable than most expect. At $0.12/KWh, the monthly cost of operation is around $18-$28. The compressor and fan only activate when cooling is needed, and once the water reaches the set point, they turn off, leaving only the low-wattage pump running.
Ideally, keep the water cold at all times so to control bacteria, reduce maintenance, and keep it clean longer. Power savings from using a timer are minimal ($3-$5/month) compared to continuous operation costs ($18-$28/month). Using a timer requires more frequent water and filter changes, negating any savings, additionally, frequent power cycling adds wear and tear to the pump, increasing the risk of failure.
